Job Description

The Occupational Therapist (Med/Surg) is responsible for providing acute-level occupational therapy interventions to hospitalized patients within the medical-surgical wards. The role ensures the successful execution of safety screening, early mobilization routines, and adaptive self-care training to minimize physiological decline during hospital stays and facilitate secure, efficient transitions to the next level of care.

Required Qualifications * Graduate of an accredited institutional occupational therapy academy (Master’s or Doctoral track approved by ACOTE).

  • Active national credentialing as an Occupational Therapist via the NBCOT.

  • Active, unencumbered license to practice as an Occupational Therapist in Arizona.

  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) credential.

Preferred Skills * Strong acute clinical evaluation skills, bedside therapeutic adaptations, and deep awareness of acute medical hardware (IVs, lines, tubes).

  • Calm demeanor under fast-paced inpatient ward environments and strong communicative teamwork qualities.

Responsibilities Duties:

Key Responsibilities * Coordinate and execute immediate bedside evaluations, tracking patient cognitive markers, functional mobility, and independent ADL capacities.

  • Prepare structured daily therapy summaries, tracking endurance, energy conservation methods, and localized cognitive performance profiles.

  • Administer prescribed therapeutic movements, safe transfer configurations, and basic adaptive device trainings at the bedside.

  • Coordinate with attending med/surg physicians, inpatient nursing units, physical therapists, and hospital discharge coordinators.

  • Monitor patient physiological responses during activities and promptly address sudden clinical declines or safety hazards.

  • Maintain absolute compliance with clinical documentation guidelines, supporting accurate hospital length-of-stay tracking.
